Located just to the North West of Leeds Centre, Meanwood is defined by its mix of town and country. It's the closest thing to village life you will find within the reaches of a thriving metropolis like Leeds. The area borders the ever popular Headingley to the South West and to the East Chapel Allerton with a similar blend of eateries and watering holes.

Meanwood sits snuggly in between, less than a mile each. Shopping is convenient with a varied range of traditional shops and three supermarkets. Sports and fitness activities are catered for at the flagship David Lloyd centre that offers a whole range of activities including a number of indoor/outdoor tennis courts and indoor/outdoor pool. They also provide a highly respected nursery and kids club.

The local schools have continued to enjoy excellent reputations with Cardinal Heenan Catholic High and Allerton High School both rated 'good' whilst Meanwood C of E Primary attracted a 'highly effective' rating from OFSTED. Other well regarded schools are Miles Hill Primary, Carr Manor Primary, St Urbans Primary and Carr Manor High School.

Within the private education sector Leeds Girls High School, Leeds Boys Grammar School and Gateways are all within a short commute of Meanwood. Indeed some even provide school buses with local 'drop off' and 'pick up' points to enable its pupils to travel to and from school.

Meanwood offers a variety of properties ranging from character Victorian terraces, Grade 2 listed conversion developments, traditional bay windowed semis through to modern apartments and luxurious executive homes on the highly regarded Woodlea Village development. Households tend to be a mixture of couples, families and young professionals.

Meanwood is famous for one of the most successful Goals Soccer Centers' 5-a-side teams, Meanwood F.C., which has captured the hearts of the Stonegate and Parkside residents and become popular amongst the local area. This team may be insignificant on a global scale but it has earned them status amongst the general public of the Meanwood area, which is mainly been due to the way they have promoted themselves.

Other social sporting activities in Meanwood include the Meanwood Valley Trail Race, which is a cross country race that has been going since 1996.

The Headingley sports stadiums are only a short distance away for those rugby and cricket enthusiasts.

Meanwood Valley Urban Farm - a city farm of 14 acres, which is home to some organic gardens as well as sheep, horses, goats, and a whole host of other animals.

Meanwood Park - in the north of the area, is one of Leeds's best loved open spaces with the Meanwood trail and its vast park, you could often mistake parts of Meanwood for being in the countryside. The local Rangers regularly organise events for youngsters in the area.

Meanwood has also become famous for paranormal activities, particularly within the grounds of Meanwood Park Hospital where numerous ghosts have allegedly been spotted.

Public Transport & Road Links

It is close to Leeds and on a major bus route, so appeals for student lets, in Leeds. The inner ring road reaches Meanwood and this enables easy and quick travelling around the city and to the motorways.
