10 free things to do in Leeds

We know Leeds pretty well, and we're even better at dodging door-taxes, lets face it, we're all pretty skint! So, we thought, we'd share some of our favourite FREE things with you, especially for those new to Leeds!

1. Leeds Art Gallery - Even if you can't tell the difference between a Jackson Pollack painting and the floor of a public toilet, there's no reason why you can't enjoy the vast collection on offer at the gallery.

2. Royal Armouries - As a species, we've developed many implements for hacking apart our enemies, and for protecting ourselves. Swords, shields, spears, helmets; the Royal Armouries has it all. You may consider these must-have items for your Leeds student accommodation; alas, it is difficult to remain inconspicuous when sneaking out in a suit-of-armour.

3. Leeds Central Library - "I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library." Jorge Luis Borges - Thousands of books from science textbooks to graphic novels to choose from, and all you need is a library card.

4. Leeds City Markets - Whether you spend money here or not is completely up to you, although it's a really good place to just go to and experience the sights and sounds. Also, check out the farmer's market on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of every month.

5. Lotherton Hall - Leeds student accommodation this most certainly isn't. Explore this Edwardian country house and the surrounding parkland, including a red deer park, bird garden, and nature trails. It'll give you something to aspire to after graduation!

6. Roundhay Park - The jewel in the crown of Leeds parks With a huge variety of walks and a specialist gardens section, Roundhay park is the perfect place to get away from it all.

7. Leeds City Museum - Four floors of galleries to transport you through the ages. You'll be gutted to find yourself back in your 21st century Leeds student accommodation when you leave!

8. Kirkstall Abbey - The Abbey and park are great to walk around, and on Sunday afternoons there is a miniature railway running (check that it's open before travelling).

9. Town Hall - If only we could offer Leeds student accommodation with this level of extravagant Victorian architecture! Great collection of civic silverware, close connections to the Ark Royal, a great concert hall and closeness to all the local amenities and museums make this town hall worth a visit.

10. Lawnswood Cemetary - You've blown £50 on booze in one night; thankfully you can absorb this sobering experience for free. 65 acres of striking monuments and haunting beauty, this is a great place to visit for those interested in architecture or Leeds history.
